SUFC v Cogenhoe United

On Tuesday 23rd April 2013 Spalding United entertained Cogenhoe United at the Sir Halley Stewart Field in their final home league game of the 2012/13 season! In a must-win situation, the Tulips duly trounced the visitors 5-1 thanks to first-half goals by Chris Hall (5 mins) and Dan Cotton on the stroke of half-time which edged the home side in front again after Cogenhoe had equalised on ten minutes. The result would have meant a whole lot more had their promotion rivals (second-placed St Ives Town) managed to drop points at home to the Tulips‘ close neighbours and dreaded rivals, Holbeach United, but the Cambridgeshire outfit did what they had to and ran out 2-0 winners. Spalding United‘s second-half display was quite breathtaking at times and they signed off their 2012/13 home campaign in some style thanks to goals from Jake Gibson (61 and 83 minutes) and man-of-the-match, Tony Battersby a minute from time – it was just like watching Brazil!…
