SUFC v Yaxley

On Saturday 6th April 2013 Spalding United entertained Yaxley at the Sir Halley Stewart Field – though I use the adjective ‘entertained’ loosely, as this must rank as one of the dullest games witnessed anywhere this season with very little to cheer the 95 brave souls who had to endure it! The Tulips emerged winners by a solitary goal margin thanks to Jake Gibson’s strike (his first for the club) after 6 minutes; after that there was precious little of note to cheer the crowd, though Tulips’ goalkeeper Michael Duggan had to twice be alert, when he pulled off stunningly sharp saves to deny the visitors a share of the spoils. This match was a dress-rehearsal for the UCL Knockout Cup Semi-Final, scheduled to be played at Yaxley on Tuesday 16th April (kick-off: 7.45pm) – here’s hoping the two teams serve up more of a spectacle in that one, but then again if the Tulips make us suffer the most dreadful 0-0 bore after 120 minutes and progress to the final 1-0 on penalties I guess everyone associated with the men from Tulipsville will go home happy!…
