Yaxley v SUFC

With no photographs being available from the most recent UCL Premier Division match between Spalding United v Long Buckby on Saturday 13th April 2013, the next photogallery in our sequence for 2012/13 (assuming our resident photographer can secure the required childcare to allow him to attend the game!) will feature action on Tuesday 16th April 2013 when Spalding United travel the short distance to Peterborough to take on Yaxley in the Semi-Final of the United Counties League Knockout Cup. Anyone who endured the tepid 1-0 win for the Tulips in the recent UCL Premier Division clash at the Sir Halley Stewart Field will be hoping for a much better showing from both sides – if we get anything like the intensity shown by Manchester City and Chelsea at Wembley in last Sunday’s FA Cup Semi-Final, then we should be in for a cracker!

Below is that very gallery (childcare secured!): having underperformed and rode their luck for most of the match, the Tulips finally equalised 1-1 through Miles Chamberlain in the 90th minute and took the tie into extra-time and on to penalties. This is when the home side’s luck eventually ran out as they failed to convert a single spot-kick, whilst Spalding United converted 3 out of their 4 taken to move into a Final on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May, when they will play St Ives Town at the neutral ground of Chestnut Avenue, home of fellow UCL Premier side, Peterborough Northern Star: Come On You Tulips!!!
