SUFC v Peterborough Northern Star

On Tuesday 19th March 2013 Spalding United hosted Peterborough Northern Star at the Sir Halley Stewart Field in the Quarter-Final of the UCL Knockout Cup. This match was a pre-cursor to the scheduled final league game of the season when the Tulips have to travel to Star on Saturday 4th May, with potential title and promotion ambitions on the line.

On this evening the Tulips concentrated fully on the task at hand and duly swept the visitors aside 4-0, thanks to first-half goals from Lee Beeson and Dan Cotton, which were duly followed up after the break by strikes from skipper, Lee Canoville and returning striker, TJ Nightingale.

Having missed out on reaching the finals of both the Lincs FA County Senior Trophy and FA Vase this season, the Tulips will be now fired up to beat Yaxley (1-0 extra-time conquerors of the erstwhile rampant Holbeach United, in their Q/F tie at Carter’s Park on Wednesday 20th March) in the Semi-Final (which has still to be arranged)…
