Peterborough Northern Star v SUFC

On Saturday 4th May, Spalding United completed their 2012/13 UCL Premier Division campaign with an away trip to the Focus Community Centre, home of Peterborough Northern Star. Knowing only a victory would suffice if they were to stand any chance of overhauling promotion rivals, St Ives Town (who lead the Tulips by a single point ahead of their away fixture at Shepshed Dynamo the same Saturday) the good people of Spalding hoped their team could go all-out and turn on the style, grit and determination that has served them so well, so many times before this season. The players duly obliged, beating PNS handsomely by 3-0 but sadly, their opponents in the UCL Knockout Cup Final 48 hours later (St Ives Town!?) did what they had to, securing a 1-0 win at Shepshed with a goal eight minutes from time (after the home side had a man sent off for two bookable cautions)…

Photogallery from this game comes courtesy of  young Harrison Toynton who stepped up to the plate due to the regular snapper being otherwise engaged at Wembley of all places, having secured FA Accreditation to photograph from pitchside at the FA Vase Final between Spennymoor Town v Tunbridge Wells that same day!…
